Red Currant And Peach Juice

I remember spending summer days on my grandparents’ farm, picking red currants off their shrubs.  Mind you, at that time, it was intense labour for my family, as my grandparents had A LOT of shrubs!  Just doing one was loads of work!  Each family member had a little stool and a bowl and we sat around and picked, picked, picked.  Ate some in between, of course.  You can’t beat that taste.  Hence, when red currants are in season, I absolutely must have them!

A lovely Red Currant and Peach Juice is SO good and super good for you!  Plus, it’s easy breezy to make!

  • 3 cups red currants
  • 3 ripe peaches

You would expect a juice with red currants to be somewhat tart, however, the peaches add just the perfect amount of sweetness to make an overall fantastic effect.  I know my taste buds absolutely love it;)

And this juice isn’t just yummy, it’s also nutrient dense!

Red currants contain potassium, protein, vitamins C and B6, calcium, iron and magnesium.  They are rich in antioxidants, help fight infections, can assist in blood cell formation and do miracles for the digestive system.

Peaches are filled with vitamins E and K, folate, iron, potassium, magnesium, manganese, zinc and copper.  Also loaded with antioxidants, they fight against free radicals and protect the body against disease.

So, do your body good and try this simple, healthy and delicious juice!

Delicious Homemade Chocolate Milk

I must be a big kid (at least at heart) because I do LOVE  an occasional glass of chocolate milk;)  And on a hot day, what better than a nice cold glass of the chocolate stuff!  My kids are split on chocolate milk – Dominick loves it, Daniel – not so much.  So I make enough for two, and my little guy is happily drinking his white milk:)

  • 1.5 cups milk (any milk of your preference)
  • 1 tbsp dark unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp organic cinnamon
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp raw honey

Product Review: Dalcini Stainless Steel Lunch/Snack Containers

Even though summer break has began not so long ago, I am already thinking ahead to the school semester that is to come!  I’m actually quite excited for my Daniel – he is starting Junior Kindergarten this year and he is SUPER happy!  So, to start practicing our lunch preparing and container opening/closing skills, we got some new containers for my little man;)  I do love the Mighty Hippo containers which I reviewed a few months back (See post: Product Review: Mighty Hippo Containers).  However, I saw these Dalcini Containers, which are completely stainless steel, and I thought they might be great to try!

The 6 piece container set (3 food storage squares with 3 matching lids) cost CAD $58 on Amazon.  Pricey.

The containers come in three different sizes.  The largest one can easily hold a sandwich and a side snack.  The smaller ones can fit good size snacks.

The containers are extremely lightweight.  The polished stainless steel lid surface is writable – any washable marker can be used for writing the contents or  sweet messages;)

Yes, the containers are great and I really like them.  There are a couple of hiccups, though.

  • durable
  • high quality
  • sustainable
  • dishwasher safe
  • easy to clean
  • non-toxic – no plastic, paints, lead, BPA and phthalates
  • lifetime warranty

  • Price is a turn off (but with all the pros listed above – I think it’s well worth it)
  • Being that the lids have no clasps – the containers can either be difficult to close, or hard to open (especially for little hands).  Practice does make perfect.  And you have to ensure you’re not overfilling.
  • The polished stainless steel is beautiful but it obvously shows all fingerprints once touched.

We have been using the containers every day just to use as snacks when we go out.  Daniel is getting really good at opening these!

I really like the fact that these are fully stainless steel – other brands usually offer plastic lids with stainless steel containers.   These little guys are good for the environment, long-lasting and most importatnly – good for my family!

I think I will be a returning customer – I’ll buy another set and my boys will be good to go in September!

4.5 hearts out of 5 for the Dalcini Stainless Steel Food Containers

Product Review: Audible – An Amazon Company (Audiobooks)

If you are a book lover like me, you know there is something absolutely romantic, calming and simply special about starting a new book.  Such a fantastic feeling!

Now, while I love to read (LOVE!), I’m also a full-time employed mommy of two, with many, many priorities on my list.  Needless to say,  it becomes a bit hard to find time to sit down and read every day, or at least read as much as I would like to.  No problems at all, though, as I think I have the perfect solution!

Sweet Cherry Maple Water Smoothie

Have you been cherry picking this season yet?  I don’t know about your part of the world, but here in my little world, the cherries are absolutely BEAUTIFUL this year!  I love fresh sweet cherries, and my kids love them too.  Albeit Daniel loves them a lot more than Dominick;)  Either way, they are a staple in our kitchen when in season!
