Juicing for your health

Okay ladies and gents, today we are talking about juicing.

I’m not talking about some fad juicing diets. I’m simply talking about juicing your veggies and fruits to make them part of your life.

By the way, have you seen the documentary “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead”? It’s on Netflix, check it out!  Amazing.

Anyway. I want to talk about juicing as it is a BIG part of my life.  I make a fresh juice every morning and love every sip!

My juices contain majority of veggies and some fruits, and my go-to ingredient list includes:

  • Avocado
  • Baby tomatoes
  • Lemon
  • Ginger
  • Parsley
  • Mixed greens (baby spinach, baby kale)
  • Mint
  • Wheatgrass
  • Coconut water

Sometimes I add some banana, strawberry, blackberry or cucumber. Whatever I have in the fridge, really!

I don’t stick to the same recipe every time (I try to develop new ones as I go along). I’ll be sure to share some interesting ones with you in future posts.  But the one I’m sharing today is my standard:)

The mixture is VERY green. I think it looks beautifully healthy.  But I know my hubby and really….most people, don’t like the look of it.  I honestly don’t know why!  What’s the deal?  Isn’t green a nice colour? 😉

Sooooo, for those of you who absolutely must drink something better looking, here is what Karl drinks in his juice:

  • Mixed greens
  • Banana
  • Pineapple
  • Strawberries
  • Lemon
  • Peaches (or any other fruit in season – plums, etc.)
  • Natural yogurt
  • Coconut Water

The blender we have allows for frozen blending to make smoothies, so Karl adds lots of ice to get that smoothie texture.

You can get the blender on Amazon: Ninja Professional Blender.  I absolutely love it – the little blender we had before does not compare at all;)

And, my Dominick’s favourite juice is very simple:

  • Baby Spinach
  • Banana
  • Strawberry
  • Natural Yogurt
  • Coconut Water

Simple goodness!

Still trying to convince Daniel to the idea of juicing. He’ll try a sip or two, but isn’t yet having a full glass.  He’ll get there;)

The main reason why I love juicing so much is that it is just impossible to eat as many veggies and fruits as you can put in your juice.

There is no way I could sit here and eat a bunch of parsley, you know?

It makes me feel like I’m doing my body a huge favour by giving it so many good, healthy things.

We’re lucky to live near many farms, so I can pick up fresh fruit and veggies all throughout summer right from the farmers. Otherwise, I try to buy as much organic as possible.

If you can’t buy organic, my mom washes (scrubs!) everything with baking soda (any fruit or veggie you consume with skin on). You know the wax on your apples that makes them so shiny?  Ya, baking soda will take it right off.  Also, apple cider vinegar works great too!

So go ahead and drink juice to your health!  Your body will thank you!
