Book Review: ‘E-Squared’ by Pam Grout

I admit, I’m an easy target for self-help, self-discovery, motivational books (as you may already know from reading some of my book reviews!) BUT – when I stumbled upon Pam Grout’s E-Squared: Nine Do-It-Yourself Energy Experiments That Prove Your Thoughts Create Your Reality, I wasn’t sure this book was for me. It seemed like it was almost too scientific. I mean – experiments? Hmm…

Now, generally, a person will want things explained scientifically – after all, we want hard proof for things that happen in this life. This especially applies to those who don’t believe in any of that miracle, ‘hocus-pocus’, crazy stuff.

In a fun, humorous way, Pam Grout leads the way through 9 simple exercises which aim to solidify your beliefs, or allow you to believe, that your mind creates your reality. There is no room for questioning – you ask the universe for hard proof, you give it the timeframe needed and you allow it to happen. It’s pretty cool.

The author supports her claims with a lot of personal stories and anecdotal evidence. To me, a biography and memoir junkie – I love reading stories of other people and learn how they changed their lives.

No, it’s not magic. Yes, it works! I tried and continue to try every day. An important thing I take away from this book is the fact that I need to know what I really want. What do I REALLY want? Many of us don’t know! Or we know and we make a million excuses of why we can’t have that thing. “I want to lose 30 pounds. But I don’t want to exercise or diet.” Well then, my friend, what is it that you REALLY want?

My evidence: on my birthday, as I was listening to an audio of E-Squared, one of the exercises was to ask for something small of the universe – a sure sign which cannot be written off as a coincidence. The only thing that popped into my head was ‘Australia’. For some reason, I have been thinking a lot about Australia lately. Anyway, it popped into my head, so I thought ‘Okay, universe, give me something to do with Australia!’ About an hour later, I received a birthday gift from a dear friend – bottle of Australian wine!

Check this book out. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
